The 10th Annual City of Los Angeles Triathlon will take place on Sunday, October 4, 2009. For additional Triathlon event details please visit
www.latriathlon.com.
In order to secure the cycle and run courses, street closures by the Department of Transportation will begin as early as 3:30am. The cycle and run portion of the triathlon will be managed in 3 sectors as shown on the Route Map (R). Sectors will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so. Estimated reopening times for the sectors are included on the pdf map.
Crossing Points will be implemented throughout the Triathlon route in order to provide relief to traffic congestion associated with the several street closures. The Triathlon is anticipating approximately 2,500 participants. Crossing Points near the start of the race may experience longer wait periods due to the frequency of the cyclists. As participants travel farther along the course the gaps between them will also increase allowing traffic to cross the route more frequently. Please keep in mind that vehicles will be allowed to cross the route but only when it is safe to do so. Unsafe crossing points may be shut down at LADOT's discretion. Also, please note that there are several natural crossing points along the route in addition to those installed by LADOT. These natural crossing points are along Grand Avenue at 2nd Street, General Thaddeus Kosciuszko Way, 3rd Street and 4th Street.
Freeway Off-Ramp closures shall be coordinated by the event sponsor. LADOT is not responsible for the freeway Off Ramp closures or any event details on the route.
It is advised that motorists avoid the areas affected by the event, if at all possible. Vehicles will not be allowed on the course at any time and will only be allowed to cross the route at Department of Transportation maintained crossing points.
The Department of Transportation will be aggressively enforcing all temporary-parking restrictions for this event to secure the safety of the participants and to facilitate the movement of traffic around road closures. Typical costs for towed vehicles include $70 for the citation and between $150 and $185 to recover the vehicle from the towing company.
Unfortunately, the Department of Transportation does not have sufficient staff or resources to provide individualized travel and parking information. If you have a question or concern regarding an issue posing a significant hardship please call (323) 224-6556. Thank you for your cooperation.
